Health Benefits of Fasting- Ganesh Chaturthi Special

Ganesh Chaturthi Wishes
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival that reveres Lord Ganesha. The festival is celebrated with much fanfare and zeal in India, particularly in the southern states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Kerala. The auspicious occasion is celebrated every year on the chaturthi (fourth day) of the Krishna Paksha. On Ganesh Chaturthi, many devotees observe fast, seeking health, wealth and prosperity. Some people abstain themselves from drinking water. This is called Nirjal Vrat. During this period, devotees also strictly refrain from eating non-vegetarian food and alcohol.
Fasting has been a part of the human tradition for many, many centuries - as a religious practice. But it may be noted that fasting offers a plethora of health benefits, including weight loss and reduced risk of diseases. This has been supported by a number of studies. We bring you a list of health benefits of fasting to keep you going strong and healthy.

·         Fasting improves cardiovascular health, blood composition, and blood pressure.
·         Fasting can help normalise insulin sensitivity, preventing a host of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart problems.
·         Fasting can also promote muscle building.
·         Fasting has been known to decrease levels of bad cholesterol in the bod.
·         It cleanses and detoxifies the body.
·         Fasting aids weight loss – excessive fats stored around your organs can interfere with organ function, however, fasting helps you reach ketosis, the fat-burning state.
·         Fasting also leads to a feeling of physical lightness, increasing energy level.
·         Fasting improves body composition in several ways, primarily through its actions on hormones and fat metabolism.
·         Fasting can help slow down the ageing process by producing more human growth hormone (HGH) – we tend to age faster when the body produces less HGH.
·         Fasting also promotes an inner stillness, enhancing spiritual connection.

Although the benefits of fasting are widely hailed by nutritionists worldwide, there is also numerous health risks linked to it, particularly, intermittent fasting. Talking to your doctor before engaging in any form of fasting is important, especially, if you have a severe medical or health concern.
